Southfield Junior School

Competitive sports

As well as our P.E lessons and after-school sports clubs, children have the opportunity to participate in sporting competitions during their time at Southfield.

Football

We currently have both a 'girls' and 'mixed' football team that compete in a local school league. Children attend training once a week with an external football coach and play weekly matches against other schools.

Last year, our girls team experienced some huge successes and subsequently helped to raise the profile of girls football at Southfield. Some of the highlights for the team included:

  • Being runners-up in the Swindon Primary Schools U11 cup.
  • Winning the Swindon U11 girls district tournament.
  • Winning the county U11 tournament and securing a place at the regional finals.
  • Being runners-up in the Premier League Primary Stars regional tournament in Wolverhampton.
  • Representing Swindon at the final of the Premier League Primary Stars U11 tournament and playing at Brentford Stadium.
  • Finishing their season in the top 20 teams in the county!

 Local School Competitions

Every year, children in Year 5 and 6 are also entered into a swimming gala and rounders tournament and compete against other local schools.
